one dress – 365 days 20 May, 2010

Ever wondered that you have nothing to wear looking into the closet filled with clothes? How about one dress for 365 days. No way you say, but Sheena & the Uniform Projects crew did just that. Sheena has pledged to wear one dress as an exercise for the sustainable fashion and a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement to improve education in India. With all of  the accessories donated, hand-made or found in thrift stores, the Uniform Project crew has created a unique project that so far has put 236 kids from the slums in school. The year is over now (although the rumors are out about the upcoming Year 2 ), but you can still donate.

Take a look at the whole journey, you wouldn’t believe your eyes.

farrow and ball wallpapers 17 May, 2010

It seems like the aftermath of the Legends of La Cienega will feed my blog posts for quite a while now. But with my weakness for all sorts of wallcoverings, I couldn’t not to write about the fabulous Farrow and Ball, a European paint and wallpaper company. Large variety and colorways, generous samples size but what really made me stand and stare is the quality. The printing techniques allow the paint to have the textured vintage, almost nostalgic, feel as if every ornament was pressed in by hand. A truly European quality.

Don’t know where to start? Or, like me, getting lost in too many irresistible choices? flip through online inspiration magazines “Key Looks with Color”  and “Feel Good Rooms” by Homes and Gardens with association with Farrow and Ball.

erin petson 14 May, 2010

My recent art find that I can’t get over is amazing Erin Petson, a Brit artist and illustrator working with mixed media.

Her love of drawing, mark making and montage create powerful and provocative images.
Her subjects have a mystical energy that is ethereal and edgy.
Erin’s delicate creations have a paper doll like quality they have been described as bondage leaning Glam Fashion-vintage assemblages.

And I couldn’t have said it better. Now you know what’s on my computer wallpaper background.

mecox on la cienega 13 May, 2010

I’m sure anyone of you have ever felt at home when entering a furniture showroom. Well, I just discovered my furniture heaven last weekend. Even though my personal style changes pretty often, Mecox is the representation of everything ME this summer from the accessories, to the books, to the dog. The only thing missing is the ocean view.

Relaxed yet sophisticated, pared-down yet intellectual… I know which site I’ll be checking quite often.

legends of la cienega 12 May, 2010

Finally have a moment to breathe in after the intense weekend with all the design fabulousness here in LA. Legends of La Cienega is a 2nd annual two-day gala of interior design in the heart of West Hollywood sponsored by Elle Decor, featuring lots of board discussions, book signings, cocktail parties and what not. But the real show stopper is  the window displays of all the showrooms on La Cienega which are decorated by interior and set designers to channel a certain theme/idea. This year inspiration is Hollywood movies. Jill from Material Girls did such a great job capturing all of those, so I won’t be redundant and post a few pics of my own of the discussions I had a pleasure to attend.

East Meets West Panel: Pamela Jaccarino, Editor in Chief, Luxe Interiors + Design; Virgil McDowell, architect;  Mary MacDonald, interior designer; Joe Nye,  interior designer; Lisa Fine and Carolina Irving of Irving & Fine.

Design Diaries Panel: Alexandria Abramian-Mott, Editor in Chief, Angeleno Interiors; Gregory Han, Apartment Therapy LA; Cassandra Lavalle, Coco+Kelly; Joy Cho, Oh Joy!; Janet Hall, Remodelista.

Setting the Mood with hilarious Robert Verdi

Most of the discussions looked like this for me as I was constantly late to grab a front spot since I couldn’t stop browsing through amazing showrooms.

Vintage Lineage Panel: Margaret Russell, Editor in Chief, Elle Decor; Chris Barrett, interior designer; Catherine Malandrino, fashion designer; Cameron Silver, founder of Decades. <images via me>
